Brewery History

Superior Wisconsin's craft brew industry has been fostered along by an enthusiastic and learned community. Starting in 1996 with its original 2-barrel system in the Itasca area of Superior, Wisconsin, Thirsty Pagan Brewing became a full-fledged brew pub in Superior's North End in May of 2006. Steve Knauss, original and current owner, purchased the assets of Rails, Inc, DBA Twin Ports Brewing, from the Sauer Family. With a healthy dose of working capital, Knauss joined the brewing industry with over a decade of experience from the Pacific Northwest. The brewery quickly grew, not only from its beer sales, but it's gourmet pizza. Starting with a staff of 5 employees, Thirsty Pagan Brewing currently employs over 30 people. In 2013 Thirsty Pagan Brewing purchased a 7-barrel system to keep up with production. That same year their "wild" or sour beer program began. With a large and dedicated brewing staff, the brewery department excelled, creating world class beer.
